‘Energy Standard’ Team won the Match in Lignano Sabbiadorro
‘Energy Standard’ swimming club’s multinational team won two days ‘Energy Standard Cup 2016’ match in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy, overcoming strong opposition from the Italian team.
Elite athletes, participating in the newly introduced Open category for the first time, provided tough competition in every race of the international 4-teams’ match between national teams of Great Britain, France, host Italy and ‘Energy Standard’ side, featuring also athletes in Youth and Junior categories.
In the second competition day star ‘Energy Standard’ club athlete Katinka Hosszu from Hungary added two more wins to her first day’s victories. She was unbeatable at 200 m butterfly (2:12.31) and at the 200 m medley (2:10.14). Hosszu topped the individual points standing taking the largest prize money of 18 000 Euroи and won the Best Performance race based on FINA points (4:32.68 at 400 IM).
Italy’s Gabriele Detti won two gold medals at the second competition day at 1500 m freestyle (15:10.93) and 400 m freestyle (3:48.53), adding also third place finish at 200 m butterfly (2:02.52). The Italian won men’s point’s standing at ‘Energy Standard Cup 2016’ with 18 000 Euro, while ‘Energy Standard’ backstroke specialist Evgeniy Rylov from Russia received honors as the Best Performer of the meet with 1:54.76 at 200 m.
The organizers also awarded points’ winners of Youth and Junior points’ standings presenting iPods to the most successful teenagers. 14 years old Daria Vaskina and 16 years old Kliment Kolesnikov, both representing ‘Energy Standard’ swimming club and Russia, won the awards in Youth standing, while Italians Giorgia Romei (16) and Nicolo Martinenghi (17) topped the Junior points’ standings. Both Italian prodigies received additional awards – and iWatch as a prize – for their Best Perfomance. Romei made it 4:13.17 in 400 m medley, while Nicolo received the most FINA points in Junior category for his 27.83 at 50 m breaststroke.
The duel between ‘Energy Standard’ team and Italy was the highlight of the second competition day.
Maria Liver from Ukraine won two important races at 100 m breaststroke (1:09.50) and 50 m breaststroke (30.91) over Gulia Verona, while another Ukrainian Daryna Zevina has got even with Silvia Scalia, winning 50 m backstroke (28.93) after losing 100 m to Italian on the first day.
Distance specialist and World Championships medalist from the Netherlands Sharon Rouwendaal added points to ‘Energy Standard’s collection winning 800 m freestyle (8:39.23) over Francesca Bertotto.
Star-packed 4x100 freestyle relay have become emotional climax of the meeting with all the teams supported their mates at the ‘Piscina Olimpica’ stands. Italy won three of six freestyle relays (Youth Boys and Girls and Junior Boys). But ‘Energy Standard’ team left no chance for the hosts to win team standings gaining victories at three more races – Junior Girls and both Men and Women in the Open category with Ukraine’s Andrei Govorov to stop the clock at 49.28 at his anchor leg.
