Great Competition At Every Race of the First Day of 2016 Energy Standard Cup in Lignano

‘Energy Standard’ tops the team classification at the end of the first day of Energy Standard Cup in Lignano Sabbiadorro, Italy. Match meeting which features Europe’s elite swimmers in the Opencategory for the first time, provided exciting competition at either elite, junior or youth level, as well as high results at almost every race.

‘Energy Standard’ team’s main stars Hungarian multi champion Katinka Hosszu and Ukrainian prodigy Andrei Govorov answered the organizers’ expectations winning every race they compete.

Hungarian ‘Iron Lady’ was unbeatable at 400 m IM (4:32.68) during the morning session, adding also gold medal at 200 m freestyle to her tally in the afternoon session (1:57.30).

Govorov, who has recently returned from pre-Olympic training camp in Brazil, overcame acclimatization to win three individual races – 50 m freestyle (21.94) and 100 m freestyle (49.78), as well as 50 m butterfly (23.23).

Both Hosszu and Govorov also helped their team to win relays. The Hungarian contributed to 4x200 freestyle mixed relay golden medal (Katinka delivered 1:58.83 at her third leg), while Govorov was a part of winning 4x100 medley men’s relay (49.78 at his freestyle leg).

Host team Italy provided great competition for ‘Energy Standard’ making it to the top three at almost every race in all three categories (Youth, Junior and Open). Silvia di Pietro at 50 m freestyle (25.14) and Erika Ferraioli at 100 m freestyle (55.02) denied gold medal claim from ‘Energy Standard’ favorite Rozaliya Nasretdinova from Russia, while Silvia Scalia won tough race at 100 m backstroke from Ukraine’s star Daryna Zevina (1:01.41).

Backstroke specialist Evgeny Rylov from Russia took revenge from Italia for Daryna winning both events - 100 m (53.45) and 200 m (1:54.76) – over Simone Sabbioni.

Teams Great Britain and France provided amazing performance in youth and junior competition.

Energy Standard Cup in Lignanowill conclude on Sunday, May 1st, at 9 am CET.

The meeting is organized by Italian Swimming Federation and ‘Energy Standard’ swimming club (president – Konstantin Grygoryshyn) as a team match with both team and individual standings at stake.
